Basic & Easy Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie Bowls are a major staple in my life. They pack a powerful punch of antioxidants, fiber, and protein. Best of all they are plant-based and low glycemic.

I love making them for myself and my kiddo loves them! It’s simpler than you think and only requires a few ingredients. Below you will find my quick & easy smoothie bowl how-to video and recipe.

How to create the “Basic” smoothie bowl

  1. Plant Based Protein. Here are the 2 I use. Tone it Up Protein or Arbonne Protein  Shake Mix ( I try to keep things very transparent on my blog. Since there is a site noted for Arbonne Protein I am letting my lovely readers know that I consult for them. However, clicking on the above link does not take you to my website nor is it an affilate link.) When choosing a Protein powder I suggest NOT using Whey. Whey is a form of dry dairy and is not plant based. I steer away from dairy products, in either wet or dry form, as they can cause a multitude of health problems in our bodies.
  2. Frozen Fruit. This helps to enrich the smoothie and give it a great a taste. I always start with frozen bananas because they lend themselves in creating that creamy consistency. Sometimes I like to add extra frozen fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries. **You can buy bags of Organic Frozen Fruit cheaper than buying fresh fruit and freezing it. The choice is up to you and your budget. 
  3. Fresh green leaf veggies such as Spinach or Kale. This step is optional. You do not have to add veggies to every smoothie bowl but doing so helps to create a well-rounded nutritious meal. Most of the time the Spinach flavor is covered up by the fruit.
  4. Fluid. I always use Silk Unsweetened Coconut Milk. You can find it at most grocery stores. Almond or Cashew milk is another fantastic option  as well as filtered water. **I do not recommend Cows milk but it will work if you choose to use it.
  5. Blend that sucker up! Here is a link taking you to the newer model Ninja that I use.  Ninja Blender (Don’t forget that you can use your 20% off coupons at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. This is where I bought my Ninja) I am partial to my blender but I have heard great things about the Vitamix too.

The Toppings

You can top your smoothie with pretty much anything as long as it stays clean and healthy.  Below are a few ideas.

  • Granola. I am picky about the granola I buy. Mainly over the fact that store bought granola can be loaded with refined sugars that can spike your blood sugar levels. Booo! Here is a link to the brand that I use and trust. My favorite Granola
  • Unsweetened Coconut shreds or flakes. I buy the Simple Truth Organic brand from my local Kroger.
  • Nuts and Seeds. I love Chia Seeds and Pumpkin Seeds!
  • Fresh Fruit.
  • Unsweet Cacaco Nibs. Here is the brand I use. Organic Cacao Nibs
